Book Talk with Ryan Lee Wong and Hua Hsu

2023, video

Don’t miss Hua Hsu and Ryan Lee Wong in conversation with Anne Ishii about publishing their latest books in 2022, as Asian Americans exploring racial identity & grief, and how art anchors their work. Hua Hsu is a staff writer at The New Yorker and a professor of Literature at Bard College. His latest book is titled Stay True, a gripping memoir on friendship, grief, the search for self, and the solace that can be found through art. Ryan Lee Wong was born and raised in Los Angeles, the son of a fifth-generation Chinese American father and a Korean immigrant mother. He has written extensively on the intersections of arts, race, and social movements. His debut novel, Which Side Are You On?, asks how can we live with integrity and pleasure in this world of police brutality and racism? An Asian American activist and his mother face this question in this powerful—and funny—novel of idealism and coming of age, solidarity and disunity, a son’s aspirations and a mother’s lived experience.
